Rohini Court Shootout
On 25 September 2021, Friday 2 accused reached at Rohini Court complex and they were dressed as a lawyer. They were carrying guns with them and entered a courtroom where one gangster was present before the court named Joginder Gogi was shot up by both of them. Both took out their guns from their lawyers’ robes and fired at Gogi. Special Cell police carrying Gogi fired on both of them and in result both assailants were died. According to the Delhi Police and sources, there were 4 assailants who met at the mall and then left to the court. It was planned incident that one will wait outside the court and other three will go inside and kill Gogi. But their plan was failed and the person waiting outside ran away. Gangster Gogi was died on the spot in the incident. The case was later transferred to Crime Branch by the Delhi Police.
Petition Filed by Bar Council of India after the shootout
On 26 September 2021, Saturday, A petition was filed by the Bar Council of India seeking directions to authority concerned to take requisite steps to ensure safety and security of lawyers, judges and litigants coming to the courts.
This plea also demanded to make a decision of installing biometric punching devices in all the courts. Meanwhile, Bar Council of Delhi Chairman Rakesh Sherawat, along with other officials reached Delhi Police Headquarters to meet Delhi CP Rakesh Asthana to discuss security review in Delhi court premises.
The petitioner said that it is a shocking incident that the district courts where thousands of advocates visit on daily basis have become so unsafe and easy terrain for gangsters to settle scores with each other.
The petitioner also includes incidents of firing in the Dwarka Court, a shooting near Saket Court in May 2019 and 2017 respectively. An undertrial person was killed after being shot inside the Rohini Court Complex.
